pousse follows encapsulations that showed tiles emerging from the wall to make a more explicit 3D presence like Anabeth Rosen’s tiles. In pousse the line emerges instead of the plane. Lines drawn on paper or in space by two of my teachers, James Trissel & Carl Reed, implied the figure, as the lines here do too. pousse is also inspired by asparagus crowns. The title refers to both “sprout” & “slapdash”. The present stoneware elements form part of an open-ended series.
